Our 75th Anniversary and the “Wachtel Way”
We are sure that Larry Wachtel would be proud of our accomplishments as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the company he founded in 1935. We have many pictures of the early years where crew and company are portrayed in a clean, professional manner. Stories have been passed down over the years by staff and clients that support the high level of professionalism that Larry embraced when he opened the doors for business in 1935.
Very early on, Wachtel Tree Science was known to approach tree care in a scientific way which challenged the company to always be up to date with the latest treatments for insect and disease control. Larry kept current by attending meetings held by the Midwest chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (now the Wisconsin Arborists Association-WAA) and Tree Care Industry Association where he also served in a number of officer positions, including president of both the Midwest chapter of ISA and TCIA.
Today we strive to be the stewards of Larry’s company by delivering scientific tree care throughout Southeast Wisconsin; we call it the “Wachtel Way”. We invest in training staff to provide your trees the best care available in a timely fashion. Hundreds of hours of training take place each year, many of these by the same organizations where Larry improved his craft. A number of our team have also carried out the tradition of industry participation, with four past presidents of the WAA currently on staff and our own Dave Scharfenberger serving as a current Vice President of The International Society of Arboriculture.
As we look to the future we are committed to providing the region with the best in tree care for the next 75 years as well. We accomplish this by hiring the right people for the job. We continue to recruit college graduates and then improve their skills through the tree care industry certification process. We often hear our competitors’ remark at the number of college graduates and Certified Arborists we have on staff and why we need so many.
